The vehicle we tested was assembled at the Hyundai Montgomery plant in Alabama and has a starting price of $40,999.00 in this Preferred trim. There is one option, which is the $4,000 for the trend package, which includes bigger tires and leatherette seating dual-panel sunroof, to name a few. Finally, for 2025, the price will increase by $2,000.
Fun Factor: 7/10
This isn't our first experience with the Santa Fe. We previously tested the peppier 2.5L turbo version; this time, we're focusing on the 1.6L turbo-hybrid version. You might raise an eyebrow at the 1.6L engine in a mid-sized SUV, but Hyundai paired this little turbo with an electric motor that cranks out a combined 231 horsepower and a respectable 271 lb-ft of torque. Surprisingly, it doesn't feel underpowered; Hyundai has mastered the art of smooth transitions, and when you step on it, the electric boost kicks in, delivering a bit of oomph that makes city driving effortless.
Can It Family? 9/10
Santa Fe gets a gold star if "Can it family?" is at the top of your checklist. Somehow, Hyundai has managed to squeeze out as much legroom as its larger cousin, the Palisade, which is saying something. The second row offers generous space, and while the third row is best for kids or occasional passengers, it is available if needed. Cargo space has also increased compared to the previous generation, so pack that extra cooler or stroller without fear. Family trips? Game on.
Fuel-Friendly Hybrid: 8/10
You will be at the gas station less often in this fuel-sipping Hybrid. Hyundai's official numbers boast 6.8L/100km in the city, 6.9L/100km on the highway, and a combined 6.9L/100km, which aligns with what we managed in our test drive. Over a 700 km journey, we saw nearly identical figures, and that's impressive for an SUV of this size. With its large fuel tank and low fuel economy, it's possible to reach 1000 km per fuel tank when driving efficiently.
Highway Warrior: 8/10
The Santa Fe holds its own on the highway with solid handling and minimal road noise. While it's not a speed demon, it cruises comfortably at highway speeds, and the seating is supportive enough for those long hauls. Advanced safety features, such as lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control, reduce some of the stress during those marathon drives. If you want to have HDA 2 (Hyundai Hwy Driving Assist 2) with the Hybrid, you're out of luck, as it only comes with the 2.5T engine.
Karaoke Friendly: 7/10
The audio system does the job, though it's no concert hall on wheels. It's good enough for a solid road trip playlist or a fun sing-along while driving. The dual-panel sunroof in the Trend Package also lets in the light, giving passengers the perfect stage lighting. Standard, you'll find a 12.3-inch touchscreen that acts as the heart of the infotainment system. This vibrant display is sleek and super easy to use, giving you quick access to navigation even if you prefer Google Maps, music, and all your vehicle settings without any hassle. To top it off, an option for a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with the Trend package modernizes the dashboard. You can customize this digital interface to show all the essential driving information you need right when needed. This combination of features makes for a more intuitive driving experience, letting you stay focused on the road.
Baby Friendly: 8/10
Are you fitting in the car seats? Easy peasy. Hyundai remembered the small details for parents. Installing car seats is a breeze, with the wide rear doors making installing and removing those bulky seats a breeze, and the second row has enough legroom to keep those tiny feet from kicking your seat every five seconds. The handy LATCH points and the roomy back seat make getting your little ones in and out much easier. The rear climate controls are a thoughtful touch to keep everyone comfortable, making your drives more enjoyable and stress-free!
City Cruising: 10/10
Navigating city streets in this Santa Fe is a picnic. Featuring a smooth hybrid powertrain, a well-tuned suspension, and strong maneuverability, it is surprisingly agile for its size. This Santa Fe is built to handle tight parking spots and busy intersections without breaking a sweat.
Pros of Buying:
Roomy Interior: Ideal for families who need space without sacrificing comfort.
Fuel Efficiency: Excellent fuel economy for its class, making it a practical choice for city and highway driving.
Tech-Savvy Safety Features: Lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, and other safety features are standard, adding peace of mind.
Cons of Buying:
Power Limitations: While the hybrid setup works well, it may not satisfy drivers seeking a sportier experience. Please, Hyundai, make an N-Version that's also Hybrid.
Options: These are tied either to the engine or trim, which can cause some features to be available with specific configurations. No XRT hybrid, for example.
Price Increase for 2025: The $2,000 price hike may cause some budget-conscious buyers to pause.
Should You Buy It?
If you're searching for a balanced SUV that comfortably handles family life without guzzling gas, the 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe could be your next best friend. It's not the fastest on the block, but it's reliable, efficient, and packed with family-friendly features. Plus, the Trend Package offers extra luxury without jumping to the Palisade's size. So, should you buy it? If practicality, space, and efficiency are your top priorities, this Santa Fe might be calling your name.
